Anatolian Plateau:
Plateau like semi arid highlands are considered the heartland of the country. This region varies from 600 to 1,200 meters from east to west. The winters here are very harsh. This feature of land is a negative for the region because the winters and jagged land makes it hard to survive. It affects the people here by creating some what of a barrier that people can't cross by foot. An Nafud Desert: This desert is in northern Saudi Arabia, and covers about 25,000 square miles. The sand can sometimes be a dark reddish color. The nick name for this desert is the "Great Nafud". This area also features some grassy areas with water. It is a barrier to travel with frequent sand storms and dunes. This could be both a positive and a negative for the region because it provides land for planting crops, but it is also a barrier for travel. It affects the people here because they can't travel across it, and they can grow crops to make money. Arabian Desert This desert is located in Western Asia. It has a hot desert climate, and it covers 2,330,000 square miles of area. It is close to the climate of the Sahara Desert. At night the temperature cools down. Many species, such as the honey badger, have become extinct due to hunting. This is both a positive and negative for the region. There are animals here to hunt for food, but it is very hard to travel around. This desert affects the people living here because it would be very hot for them, but this also brings in food for them. Asir & Hejaz Mountains: These mountains are located in western Saudi Arabia. The range runs north to south along the red sea. The mountains have an elevation of 2,100 meters. There is also a "cradle of gold" in a region of the mountains, which is abundant in gold. Many people mine here. This is a positive for the region because it brings in a lot of jobs and money from the gold mining available. This affects the people by getting jobs. Caucasus Mountains These mountains are a range in Eurasia between the Black Sea and the Caspian Sea in the Caucasus region. The highest peak of these mountains is Mount Elbrus rising at about 5,642 meters high. The mountains are generally composed of granite and crystalline rocks. The region is subject to strong earthquakes due to tectonic plates moving. This region would be affected negatively due to the cold weather and strong earthquakes. The people of this region would be affected negatively as well, because of the earthquakes hurting them, and houses and so forth. Elburz Mountains The Elburz Mountains, also called the Albourz, is a range of mountains in Iran that is 560 miles long. This area is covered in limestone and green thick volcanic tufts and lava. The forests of the Elburz cover more than 8,000,000 ac. of the land there. There are coal mines spread out through the range. The forest is available for wood and other hunting needs. The rivers of this mountain chain is what makes it so important; the water is used for irrigation which makes hydroelectricity which the people in this region need. This mountain range is a positive for the region because it provides wood, water, coal, and hydroelectricity. These are all important needs for the people living here. It impacts the lives of the people here because it gives them necessities they couldn't live without. Karakum Desert The Karakum Desert is a desert in Central Asia. Its name means "black sand" in Turkic languages. The population is sparse, with only one person per 2.5 square miles. Rainfall is slim as well, ranging from about 70mm to 150mm. This area covers about 70% of Turkmenistan. The sand of the desert contains finely-dispersed evaporites and remnants of alkaline mineral deposits. This desert has a few basins which collect precipitation; when it does fall. These basins make it possible to grow certain fruits such as melons and grapes. This desert is a positive and negative for the region. It provides basins which store water and grow fruits, but it is also a bare place with not much plant or animal life around. It takes up a lot of space with not doing too much. It impacts the people that do live there, because it provides fruits, but also gives out warm temperatures and not much water. Taurus Mountains This mountain region is located in southern Turkey. The chain is divided into three ranges; Western Taurus, Central Taurus, and Southeastern Taurus. The highest point on the mountains is 3,756 meters. There is hiking and climbing here, as well as two resorts on the mountains. There are railway lines that go on the mountains. This mountain range is a positive for the region; providing attractions, and transportation. It affects the people here by giving them new ways to get around, and fun things to do. Zagros Mountains The Zagros mountains form the largest range in Iran and Iraq. The range has a total length of 1,500 meters. The Zagros is home to a rich display of flora and fauna. Oak trees, wheat, barley, and walnuts are such things you can find living there. The range has very severe winters, with low temperatures. It is also home to many endangered species such as the Striped Hyena and the Persian Fallow Deer. Rainfall in the range is about 40 inches. These mountains are a positive for the region; for they provided important food and wood sources, and they protect endangered species. This affects the people because it gives them jobs, and food. They must pick the food or slice the wood to eat/work with. Indus River The Indus river is a major river that flows through Pakistan and some parts of India and China. The total length of the river is about 3,180 km. The river provides ecosystems of temperate forests, plains, and arid countryside. It is Pakistan's largest river. You can find Palla fish along the riverside. This river is the most important provider of water sources to the Punjab and Sindh plains - it forms the backbone of agriculture and food production. There have been floods that occurred in the area. This river could be a positive and a negative for the region. On one hand, it provides a very important source of food and agriculture, but on the other, it floods, which destroys houses and buildings and other things in that area. This Indus river affects the people living here because it provides them with food and jobs, but it also floods, causing problems with housing and such. Tigris River The Tigris River flows south from the mountains of southeastern Turkey through Iraq. The river is 1,850 km long. It rises in the Taurus mountains. The river has been heavily dammed, due to the fact it is notorious for flooding following April and the melting of snow. This region is hot and subtropical. The drying of marshes in the area has led to a loss of vegetation and plant life in the area. The plankton rich waters that surrounded soil are gone, and so are many fish species and other organisms. Some of the river is dealt out to counties that surround it for watering crops and other uses. This river is a positive and negative for the region, because it provides a source of water for crops which the people need to survive, but it also floods a lot and most of the vegetation is gone. The river affects the people by them having to deal with floods, and the river giving them a source of water for crops. |
